Fried Modak Traditional Recipe


Modak is the most beloved dish of Ganesha. Modak is made in every house on the occasion of Ganesha worship in Maharashtra. With the glee of the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, Fried Modak filled  in crispy flour shell with of coconut, jaggery, cardamom. They have more shelves life,  that is, we can make them beforehand. 


Necessary ingredients
Wheat flour - 1 cup (150 grams)
Jaggery (Gud) - 1 cup (150 grams)
Coconut - 1 cup (grated)
Slivers of cashews, almond and  chironji - two handfuls
Green Cardamom - Five to Six

Pure Ghee - One big spoon




Method of making fried modak
To make Modak, take out the wheat flour in the vessel, add some ghee to it and mix it well; Now add little water to it and prepare it like a soft dough. Cover the dough for 10-15 minutes, the dough will be set and ready.
Heat the pan over the gas and add jaggery to it and allow jaggery to warm. Now add the grated coconut in it. Put the slivers of dry fruits in it too. Peel cardamom and make powder and add cardamom powder and mix all the ingredients well. Keep stirring continuously on low and medium flame for 2 minutes. Mix coconut and jaggery till it is done, then shut down the gas. Stuffing is ready, take it out in the plate and let it cool down.


Knead the dough for some time and then prepare the small balls from the dough. Now, take a ball and make a round goal and prepare the puri in 2 to  2.5 inch diameter. Put the puri in hand and keep 1 to 1.5 tsp spoonful stuffing and close the puri from making buds around it and giving shape to the modak. Similarly, prepare all the modaks. Put oil in a pan and heat it. When the oil is heated, put the numbers of modaks on one go in pan that can cook. Fry the modak till it turns golden brown. When the Modak is ready, take out to plate and prepare all the modaks in this way.
